Cardiology

What is a Cardiologist?

A Cardiologist is a doctor who specializes in the heart and blood vessels

They can diagnose, treat or help prevent heart diseases

A wide range of heart diseases can include:

  • Atherosclerosis
  • High Blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Chest Pain
  • Heart Failure
  • Heart attacks
  • Stroke
  • Blood Clots
  • Atrial fibrillation
  • Heart valve problems
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Problems with your aorta
  • problems with your arteries (peripheral, subclavian, renal, and coronary)

Peace Medical Center has a cardiologist on staff to diagnose and treat your cardiac needs

Our Cardiologist uses PMC’s Cardiology Services  and Vascular Services to aid and diagnose your heart conditions

The Cardiologist may also use X-rays or CT scans (computed tomography) depending on your symptoms and his recommendations

Why would you need to see a cardiologist?

Your Primary Care Physician may refer you to a Cardiologist if you are experiencing shortness of breath, chest pains, or dizziness

these are the most common symptoms  but others can be present as well, indicating a problem with your heart

It is important not to delay your visit to the heart doctor as early detention and intervention is key to managing heart disease

You may also be referred to a Cardiologist if you have an upcoming surgery and your surgeon is requesting cardiac clearance

All of these services are available at Peace Medical Center with our Cardiologist

We accept both internal and external referrals

What to expect when seeing a cardiologist

The cardiologist will do a physical exam and discuss your medical and family history, as well as your symptoms

Basic information will be gathered to include your weight, blood pressure, blood sugar levels and your cholesterol levels

With this information the cardiologist will recommend the required testing to diagnose potential heart problems

Such testing includes Electrocardiogram (EKG), Holter Monitor, and can proceed to other Cardiac Services such as Stress Tests and Echocardiograms.

It is important to keep regular follow up visits with your cardiologist

This provides good overall heart health management, and any new indications to changes in your disease can be addressed

If any new symptoms occur between scheduled visits be sure to call your cardiologist immediately

For cardiac clearance patients, a series of cardiac testing will be ordered and results reviewed before cardiac clearance will be granted
