What is a Physical Exam?

A physical examination can also be called an annual care visit or well check

It is a once a year examination where the focus is not on your diagnosis but rather focused on preventative care tailored specifically to you

Be sure to follow through on any other preventative care measures your doctor may suggest that could include
mammograms, colonoscopies or diabetic eye exams

During the physical examination, talk to your doctor about how you are feeling, but remember, any discussion of new symptoms or chronic conditions may not be covered under the annual exam for your insurance as these are conditions covered under a follow up or regular office visit Still, this one-on-one time with your primary care physician is important to have once every year

What is included in the Physical Exam?

During the physical examination many pieces of your medical record are updated which will include:

  • Height and weight
  • Vitals
  • Discuss your medical care preferences
  • Review your medications and dosage
  • Update your family, social, and surgical history
  • Perform the physical exam

How to make the most of you physical exam appointment
