Echocardiogram

Peace Medical Center Offers Transthoracic Echocardiograms

This type of procedure uses sound waves to produce images of your heart allowing your doctor to see your heart beating and pumping blood, these images are used to identify heart disease.

During the echocardiogram, a small amount of gel is placed on a probe which is then pressed firmly against your chest wall aimed towards your heart.

Why would an echocardiogram be ordered?

  • To check if heart problems are the cause of symptoms such as chest pain or shortness of breath, dizziness or fatigue.
  • To determine if problems exist with the valves or chambers of your heart.
  • To evaluate congestive heart failure.

The echocardiogram will take about 30 – 45 minutes to complete
