This test tells us about the risk for cardiovascular disease for a particular person

A CT scan of the heart is performed to calculate the exact amount of calcium noted in the heart, which based on this a score.

Called the Calcium Score, is calculated.

A score over one hundred is considered significant

Cardiac Risk factors include

  • Age
  • Family History of Heart Disease
  • Sex
  • Level of Physical Activity
  • Symptoms
  • Personal Medical History

Known risk factors are, smoking, diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol

A follow up visit should be scheduled to discuss the results with your doctor.
